Position: Director of Finance and Administration

Overview:The Director of Finance and Administration will be
responsible for overseeing all financial operations and strategy
within the organization. This role includes ensuring the financial
health and integrity of the organization by managing budgeting,
financial reporting, audits, compliance, and financial analysis.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit
financial management and the ability to work collaboratively with
leadership and staff to ensure the organization's mission is
supported through sound financial practices.Key
Responsibilities:
- Financial Management & Reporting:
- Lead the preparation of the organization's financial
statements, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with
generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Prepare and present regular financial reports to the board,
executive team, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
processes, including budget-to-actual variance analysis.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all required financial
reports, tax filings, and other compliance documents.
- Budgeting & Financial Planning:
- Lead the development and oversight of the organization's annual
budget, collaborating with department heads to set financial goals
and priorities.
- Monitor and track budget performance and provide regular
updates to the executive leadership team and the board of
directors.
- Implement financial forecasting and scenario planning to
support decision-making and long-term sustainability.
- Cash Flow & Fund Management:
- Oversee cash flow management, ensuring that the organization
maintains sufficient liquidity to meet operational needs and
obligations.
- Manage investments, endowments, and other financial resources,
ensuring their optimal use.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive strategy for handling and
tracking restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal financial controls to
safeguard the organization's assets and ensure accurate
reporting.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws
and regulations, as well as nonprofit sector financial
standards.
- Oversee audits and coordinate with external auditors, ensuring
that financial audits are conducted in a timely manner and that any
findings are addressed appropriately.
- Financial Strategy & Analysis:
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support
strategic decision-making and long-term planning.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and financial efficiencies
without compromising the mission of the organization.
- Support leadership in evaluating financial impacts of new
programs, grants, and operational changes.
- Grant Financial Management:
- Oversee financial management of grants, ensuring compliance
with donor requirements, proper allocation of funds, and timely
reporting.
- Work closely with program managers to track grant expenditures,
prepare reports for funders, and ensure appropriate
documentation.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Supervise, mentor, and manage the finance team, ensuring they
have the resources and training necessary to perform their roles
effectively.
- Foster a culture of financial accountability and transparency
across the organization.
- Promote cross-departmental collaboration to align financial
goals with organizational objectives.
- Board and Leadership Support:
- Serve as a key advisor to the Executive Director/CEO and Board
of Directors on all financial matters.
- Prepare financial presentations for Board meetings and assist
in board-level financial decision-making.
- Support the development and execution of fundraising strategies
through financial analysis, budgeting, and
reporting.Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business
Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 7 years of financial management
experience, with a strong background in nonprofit financial
operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and
compliance. Non-profit financial experience is a requirement for
this position.
- Skills:
- Expertise in nonprofit accounting and financial
regulations.
- Strong understanding of financial software, accounting systems,
and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate it
effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact
with a diverse group of stakeholders, including the board, staff,
donors, and external auditors.
- Knowledge of fund accounting and familiarity with grant
reporting requirements is a plus.
